What the Schemes Offer

Whichever of our three placement schemes you choose, we are committed to ensure you get the most out of your time with us and learn fully about our business. All our placements allow development of transferable skills that will aid you in any future career.

Everyone undertaking a placement at Thorpe Park can expect the following:

A mentor

You will be allocated a mentor who will support you and help direct your learning and development. An initial meeting will identify learning goals, and regular reviews will ensure you stay on track and that everything is OK.

An Individual Development Plan

Created during your first meeting with your mentor, a development plan will ensure that both personal and academic learning goals are identified, with realistic plans of action agreed.

Regular Reviews

You will receive regular performance reviews so you always know how you are doing, and also how your development plan is progressing.

Support with course work

We understand that at times you will have work to produce for your college or university. If we can help in any way, then you only have to ask and we'll see what we can do!

Learn our business

Regardless of which placement you are doing, we want you to understand the wider business of Thorpe Park and of our industry. You will attend a structured programme of information sessions with our key managers from across the business, including Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Development, Customer Services, Operations, and Commercial.

Projects

Projects help develop lasting skills in organisation, time management, planning, communication and networking. The Leadership and Business placements will involve projects relating to your specific job roles, with those on the Operational scheme joining the ‘Make A Difference' project.

Front Line Focus Day

All placement students will have the opportunity to work in a different department for a day to experience another side to the business.

Training

  • Comprehensive company induction on your first day.
  • Department induction and familiarisation.
  • Thorough training relevant to your day-to-day role.
  • Your mentor and our Training & Development team can identify any additional training which would benefit you.

A Future

After completing their studies, many of our placement students return to Thorpe Park to take up permanent positions. Not only can Thorpe Park provide a definite future career path, but so can Merlin Entertainments. With eleven visitor attractions across three continents, extensive career opportunities are available for people who have lived our company values and learnt how we do business!
